This past weekend I took 7 of our wonderful students up to Denver for the National History Day in Colorado competition (more simply known as State History Fair). Unfortunately, we did not have any students place this year. From the judging sheets we received back, it must have been a very competitive year for the categories we were in, because our kids received some fantastic marks (higher than we have ever had before).
While there was no winning and moving on to nationals, I do want to shout out our kids who represented us FABULOUSLY along the entire trip. Everywhere we went I received amazing comments in regards to their attitudes and behavior. People were very impressed!
As a part of our trip this year, we visited the History Department at CU Boulder to talk with them about their school and to take a tour. They shared about a new program they have started within the last two years geared to the San Luis Valley to get students to come up for 2 weeks in the summer and experience college life and the city, plus, it is entirely FREE for the kids. I will be talking with Lara about it because we have a couple of kids already interested.
